Finck Cup Finals Set
The Fighting Orangutans return to the Finck Cup Finals for the 2nd year in a row, this time to face the 2021 NSSLL Champion Colby Pool Sharks.
It was semi-final elimination night in the NSSLL on Tuesday as both series went to a third and deciding game. #1 seed Fighting Orangutans took a one goal lead into the third period and held on to win 10-7 over 2022 Finck Cup finalists the Twin City Arrows. The O's advance to the Finck Cup finals for the 2nd year in a row.
#2 seed Colby Pool Sharks dominated a depleted Halifax Hustle roster 14-6 to advance to the Finck Cup. The 2021 champion Sharks hope to make it 2 cups in 3 years!
Fighting Orangutans 10 vs Twin City Arrows 7
Trailing 5-3 five minutes into the 2nd period the Orangutans went on a 4 goal run to take the lead, and while the Arrows fought back the O's scored two late goals to seal the deal.
It was a balanced attack as 7 players scored for the Orangutans including Jody Gorman, Jasper Goodwin and Bryce Mayea with 2 goals each, and singles by Mitch Brossard (6pts), Luke Smeltzer (5pts), Drew MacDonald and Mark Falkenham. Cole Reschny allowed just 7 goals for the win and a 2-1 series victory.
Ben McKay notched 2 goals for the Arrows, giving him 8 goals in just 3 playoff games. David Rossiter and Will Holmes added 2 each and Neil McCallum also scored for the Arrows.
Colby Pool Sharks 14 vs Halifax Hustle 6
Andrew McNeil had a 5 goal outburst for the Sharks and Brandon Deveaux shut the door, allowing only 6 goals as the Sharks eliminated the 2022 Finck Cup Champion Halifax Hustle 2 games to 1.
Ryan Morris and Gavin Quigley scored 2 goals each, as did Greg Delano, who scored both in transition. John MacDonald, Sanchez Clarke and Ryan Fougere rounded out the scoring for the Sharks.
2023 NSSLL scoring champion Ian McShane had 5 points (2G 3A) for the Hustle, who also had 2 goals from Jay Titchmarsh and singles from Jonah Glazebrook and Dalton Brown.
Game 1 of the Finch Cup Finals between the Fighting Orangutans and the Colby Pool Sharks goes Thursday June 13th at 8:00pm at the RBC Centre in Dartmouth.
